Kenneth Merle “Kenny” Olson 1926–2000

Kenneth Merle Olson, 74, known to his family and friends as Kenny, died on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN. He was born to William and Jennie (Dahlstrom) Olson on May 14, 1926 in Rock Creek. He grew up on the family farm with his five brothers and one sister and always enjoyed working on the farm. This was especially true when it involved the horses. Kenny loved working with the many different teams of horses the Olson family owned over the years.

On April 16, 1950, he married Delorees Sederberg, or Doie, as she was fondly called. They had two children, Gary and Tammy.

Kenny was employed at a variety of jobs during his working years. He was an employee at Amber Milling in Rush City for a short time before moving on to McDonald Distributing in Rush City for about 15 years. Later, he owned his own candy and cigarette business for a number of years.

In 1973, Kenny lost his wife of 22 years to cancer. When Doie died, a part of Kenny died also. It seemed he was missing half of himself. He loved her deeply and missed her a great deal.

Following Doie's death, Kenny moved to Freeborn, MN for a few years. He did farm work and also employed as a sales representative. In more recent years, he sold pulltabs at JJ's Bowl and Lounge in North Branch and at the VFW in Rush City. He also maintained his side job of selling tomatoes. His places of employment always had two things in common, people and farming.

Kenny enjoyed cooking and baking, most often giving away the fruits of his labor to family and friends. He was the only one of the Olson sons who absolutely loved to cook.

In January 1950, Kenny was baptized and made his personal commitment to Christ on Dec. 27, 2000.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Stephanie Olson, Rock Creek; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Scott Sader, Rush City; grandchildren, Alissa and Bruce Karst, Shannon Olson and friend, Jayson Jahnz, Brian Olson and fiance, Breckan Johnson, Chad Sader, Ashley Sader and Tiffany Sader, sister, LaDez Pangerl, Pine City; brothers, Dale Olson and his wife, Gladys, Cambridge; Chuck and Elaine Olson, Rush City; Harold and Sharon Olson and Clifford Olson and friend, Ruth, all of Rock Creek; Ronnie and Jan Olson, Livingston, TX; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jenny Olson, his wife, Delores, brother-in-law, Bernard Pangerl, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Olson and Arlene Olson.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the First Lutheran Church in Rush City. The Rev. Laurie O'Shea officiated. Music was performed by Stephanie Olson, Andy Anderson and Laura Martin. Honorary casketbearers were Kenny's sister and brothers. Casketbearers were Chris Olson, Brian Olson, Chad Sader, Greg Olson, Jeff Pangerl and Robert Olson.

Burial was at First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.
